Chart presentation is selected with the Chart button on the Top Toolbar.

In Chart view, when grouping by item is selected, the selected data items are presented in the form of two bar graphs:

Master, that shows the totals for the specified time period, and Details, that shows the components comprising the total.

For example (depending on grouping), if you select jobs as data item, the Master graph presents the selected instances of jobs on the x-axis, and the total hours/dollars spent for every job as bars, on the y-axis.

The Details graph presents all the employees engaged in performing the selected jobs on the x-axis and the total hours/dollars spent by every employee on the combination of all the selected jobs, on the y-axis.

Master and Detail view

You can change the presentation by selecting a different grouping from the Group drop-down box (by item or by various time intervals).

You can select to display the Master chart, the Details chart, or both by clicking on the corresponding option at the top of the window.

Similarly, you can customize the display of bar graphs by hiding/revealing the desired series by clicking the options in the Series Selection Toolbar at the bottom of the window.

You can specify the time period with the controls in the Period group and select the grouping of data on the x-axis by item or by time from the Group drop-down list in the tool bar at the top of the window.

To order the presentation of bar graphs, use the Sort drop-down box in the tool bar at the top of the window (select sorting by name or by value) and the A-Z/Z-A, to arrange the chart in the descending or ascending order.

Click View > Labels to toggle the display of the labels (totals) in the bar graphs (this may be necessary when the Details graph becomes too messy when too many items are selected).
